Benefits

Benefits are provided by both CIR and NYCHHC to cover everything from health/dental insurance and prescriptions to educational stipends to family support. CIR is the Committee of Intern and Residence which is a union of residents supporting us financially, on a political level and our wellbeing. It provides us tremendous bargaining power when it comes to contract negotiation within NYCHHC as well as giving us a national voice on Capitol Hill.

Meal Allowance

Vacation
Residents receive four weeks of paid vacation each year.

Malpractice Insurance
Malpractice insurance coverage is provided by the Health+Hospitals (H+H) of the City of New York

Education Benefit
CIR provides: $750 Professional Education Plan (PEP) each year. More information can be found on the CIR website

$1,500 Continued Learning Program (every 3 years) generally used for conferences.

$3,000 QI/PS Quality Improvement Scholarship available to residents interested in applying.

Health Coverage
Choice of health plans provided by HHC. Medical Plan, GHI-Comprehensive benefits program of Health Insurance Plan (HIP) or Group Health Incorporated (GHI) plus Blue Cross Hospital Benefits. All Plans include maternity benefits and benefits for dependent children.

Prescription Coverage
CIR provides: $500 yearly for member and $500 yearly for each dependent

Optical Coverage
CIR provides: One free eye exam yearly for each dependent and one free pair of lenses and set of frames yearly for each dependent (up to $225)

Dental Coverage
CIR provides two plans through Guardian:

  • Managed Dental Guard (an in-network plan)

  • Dental Guard Preferred (an out-of-network plan)

Life Insurance
CIR provides: $150,000 for member — $20,000 for spouse

Disability Coverage
CIR provides:
Short Term Disability — up to $875 a month up to 90 days
Long Term Disability — 70% of annual salary up to $3,500 per month
